Bully Go Home: The Origin Story

Bully Go Home was founded in 2015 by Denise Fussell following an eye-opening experience at a summer camp. Denise was invited to participate in a panel discussion, during which concerns about bullying were brought to the forefront. The complaints centered around two boys, ages 7 and 10, who were persistently bullying other campers. The situation escalated to the point where the two kids were so distressed that they refused to return to camp the next day.
This experience revealed to Denise the profound impact that bullying, even among young children, can have on a child’s emotional well-being. She realized the lasting trauma such behavior could inflict on both the victims and the perpetrators. During the panel discussion, Denise expressed that bullying had no place at the camp, saying, “Bullies need to go home.” From that moment, the idea for Bully Go Home was born.

Bully Go Home was established in 2015 by Denise Fussell after a defining experience at a summer camp panel discussion. During the session, concerns were raised about two boys, ages 7 and 10, who had been persistently bullying other campers. The situation became so severe that two of the kids were too upset to return the following day.
This incident opened Denise’s eyes to the profound emotional impact bullying can have on children, both those who are targeted and those who bully. During the discussion, she firmly stated, “Bullies need to go home.” That statement became the catalyst for the creation of Bully Go Home, dedicated to addressing and preventing bullying from an early age.
